When the Norwegian siblings tried out their instruments together for the first time so many years ago, they were astounded by the magic that was created – and they had no idea what to do with it.. After years of experimenting and desperate attempts to shape it, they went out in the world looking for it. It was in the dirty streets of Buenos Aires that it just clicked. «We didn’t understand that for us to find a way to express ourselves, we had to start creating and composing our own music», Andreas says. «And we had to cross the globe to find out», he laughs.

A testimony of their newfound direction and prolonged stay in the Capital of Tango was their first album “Estación San Telmo” (2016), in which both sides of their musical voice is expressed – including original arrangements of Argentine tangos as well as their own compositions. The duo members agree that this albums sophistication and delicate musical details wouldn’t be the same without the guidance and inspiration of bandoneon icon Pablo Mainetti as musical producer.

Their music reflects both the grit and melancholy of the bandoneon and the sparkling, shining strings of the both the classical harp and Julies two folk harps. Elegantly fusing influences from classical music, tango, Scandinavian and Celtic folk music, their distinctive voice is expressed through an intuitive interplay. “Harp and bandoneon are on they own two very different instruments but when Julie & Andreas play they melt together as one”, comments Kai Stovedal, head of the music organisation «Friends of Music» in Mandal, “Julie & Andreas have an impressive interplay and work almost as one organism.”

The duo has been highly active during the last two years, having performed in 9 different countries. They are currently based in the Netherlands, where they have just finished their master studies in tango music at Codarts University of the Arts, graduating with an unprecedented double 10/10 for their final combined master performance.

In the end, why do they keep doing what they do? «Because we truly believe there is still magic in the world; in the wonders that are all around us every day, that we sometimes forget and miss out on appreciating when we’re too busy with all the hectic stuff that we all have to do all the time», Julie explained with a big smile. And it is this magic they want people to see –
they want to create a space in peoples day for inspiration, for pausing and reconnecting. «I […] listened to their CD from start to finish twice.”, curator at Laboratoriet concert venue Sissel Ekra says, “Afterwards I wanted to create music and to write a new song.”, she finishes – managing to pinpoint exactly what the siblings thrive to do with their music.

«There is magic in good music too, but the real magic happens when the music creates a space that allows the person listening to embrace his or hers own inspiration, when it allows this person to find one of those moments for themselves.» Andreas says.

Throughout his life, Tim has played a lot of different music styles, including tango, flamenco, Argentinean folkloric music, Brazilian music, Latin-American folkloric music, and classical music. His main priority is to show the versatility of the guitar in all music styles. To accompany soloists and singers, or to be a rhythm and groove section in an ensemble, but also to be a soloist in a broad variety of genres.

He completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degree at the Codarts conservatory in Rotterdam.

Gustavo Cabrera was born in Los Angeles, California and has a second nationality from Argentina where he has lived for 5 years. He has been playing the violin since the early age of 5 and has been classically trained all along. Aside the classical repertoire, he has experience playing in all kinds of settings from jazz to tango which he learned by masters like Atilio Stampone in the National Tango Symphony of Argentina, Leopoldo Federico and his orchestra in Buenos Aires and Toured Europe with Orquesta Tipica Ciudad Baigon in 2012.
